Viver Brasil was founded in 1997 by Linda Yudin and Luiz Badaró and in 2019, appointed Vera Passos as Associate Artistic director. They honor Brazil's African legacy through bold contemporary dance theatre that is inspired by the timely stories of the mythical orixa; the liberating joy of samba de roda, and a call for justice in the dances and rhythms of the bloco afro.
Viver Brasil is dedicated to rigorous research of Afro-Brazilian culture, as well as continuous dialogue and collaboration between its wise elders, living masters, choreographers, and virtuoso musicians in Bahia and the US. The creative voices of the company fuel and empower Viver Brasil’s dynamic and powerful artistry as it addresses anti-blackness, building joyful community and honoring ancestral memory and wisdom. |
