5th Quarter Bantaba
5th-Quarter Bantaba (5th-QB) is a new collaboration between Jackson State University's Sonic Boom of the South, Latanya d. Tigner, Senegalese percussionist Magatte Fall, Guinea dancer and choreographer Alseny Soumah, and Senegalese dancer and choreographer Ouseynou Kouyate.
Marching In introduced Jackson State University's renowned Sonic Boom of the South drum majors to the Bay Area community. They shared the history of HBCU (Historically Black Colleges & Universities) marching bands, their band history, the significance of the "marching in" and their movement traditions.
This is a project of Dancing Cy(i)phers, and is being produced by World Arts West with support from the Kenneth Rainin Foundation, the Eastbay Community Foundation and Dimensions Dance Theater
World Arts West is proud ot support the actualization of Latanya D. Tigner's 20+ year vision of 5th Quarter Bantaba, a collaboration with Jackson State University's Sonic Boom of the South, Magatte Fall, and Alseny Soumah. This dream in action will be presented with collaborator and cultural advisor Alseny Soumah and other California-based dance artists.
