SPECIAL ARTIST COMMISSION

Migrations

World Arts West was proud to partner with Nava Dance Theatre for this presentation of Migrations. Inspired by community interviews with South Asian immigrant women who arrived after the 1965 Immigration and Nationality Act, Migrations explores the labor of immigrant artists.
Nadhi Thekkek of Nava Dance Theatre and Dr. Anne Huang of World Arts West, facilitated a virtual story circle featuring an exclusive first-look of Migrations, commissioned by World Arts West and supported by the Zellerbach Family Foundation and the Kenneth Rainin Foundation. This work premiered at ODC during Nava Dance Theatre's home season followed by a roundtable dialogue with highly-acclaimed cultural artists, Naomi Diouf of Diamano Coura West African Dance Company and Carlos Moreno of Ballet Folklorico Mexicano de Carlos Moreno.
