Cascada de Flores

For People Like Me, Cascada de Flores will present a humble "sprinkle" of dance and song from the enormously beautiful state of Michoacán, which lies on the western coast of México. Cascada de Flores, which translates into "a waterfall of flowers," represents many things… the waterfalls near Uruapan, the intense green of the mountains, the food: corundas and tamales dulces (sweet!), and most of all, the people, their music, and their dance!

Cascada de Flores is the meeting of four artists; two dancers and two musicians who come together to present this dance and music of the P'urhepecha people, who inhabit the northern region, cradled in the mountains, surrounding Lake Patzcuaro. The P'urhepecha, who the Spanish named "Tarascos", celebrate their life with Abajeños (Fast tempo in 6/8 time) and poetic Pirekuas, based on the beauty of the nature which surrounds them and sustains them.
