Movement Games Movement and Music Activity Movement
games can help the students explore many possibilities of how humans
move. By exploring their own kinesthetic experience, they can enhance
their understanding of what they will see in the diverse dance
styles in the concert. If possible, do these exercises before seeing
the show, and then after the show. Identify with the students some
of the movement qualities in each of the dance forms.
Each of the following movement qualities can be the source for several minutes of movement improvisation. Have the class move reflecting one quality at a time. While they are moving, say the descriptive words aloud to guide them. Then try them in combination!
