Inside the Rainbow

Art & Construction Activity

The following five maps (on the Printable Pages) each have an encircled area which represents one of the five regions where dances in People Like Me 2001 originated. Students should draw (or paint) lines from regions of the world which influenced this dance style, to the countries where each dance style was born. By encircling the birthplace-region with all the colors from the source-region countries, one can appreciate the diversity of roots in each style.

Each source region could be colored in with different color (from the flag of the region, if possible), and the lines to the birthplace region should be drawn in that same color. When there is significant indigenous influence, remember to include that color in the dance's rainbow surrounding the region. See what color combinations appear in each dance style's birthplace, and what a rainbow we have here in our own back yard!

This information is given in the narration of the show, as well as in the Dance Locator section of the study guide.
